Vaccines and health risks
France is a safe country and only the “basic” vaccines in your vaccination calendar must be up to date. Health risks are low.
Health system in France
Healthcare in France is easy once you understand the system and all the procedures are done !
For students, France operates with a social security system (Caisse Primaire d'Assurance Maladie - CPAM) as well as complementary mutuals which are highly recommended for better reimbursements.
If you come from a country of the European Union or the European Economic Area, you will need the European Health Insurance Card (CEAM) before your arrival in France, so you won’t join social Security. Likewise if you come from Quebec you will have to certify that you benefit from social protection in your country.
For a stay of less than three months, the subscription to private insurance is requested.
Complementary mutuals are not mandatory but will allow you to receive in return almost all of your expenses in medical expenses, the reimbursement rate and the packages you will benefit from depend on the type of mutual you subscribe to.
Healthcare system in France is among the best in Europe. In addition to the faultless skills of health personnel, the country has a large number of modern and very well-equipped public and private hospitals.
